View Full Version : The Selfish Pig's Guide to Caring, Hugh Marriott

I bought this book for my mom (she cares for my dad) a while ago now and I think she found it quite helpful.

There have been a few recommendations on the forum before which is why I bought this book. It is written by Hugh Marriott who is caring for his wife with Huntington's Disease. I have read it and found it very useful as well as a bit of humour mixed in as well.

I do not mind forwarding this book on or you can buy it for about 2.00 (used) on amazon - well worth it :)

Thanks for the recommendation. I started this book and put it down when I couldn't find the time. Maybe I should make time.

I have just finished reading this book too and I had a little chuckles in parts cos its so like me and my 'piglet' this man has hit the nail on the head and like he says its okay to want to shout or scream when you are tired and things arent going to plan.Or to be fed up now and again.I have cared for John for 19 years with this disease and sometimes I am so tired I could sit and cry,and I have done just that but on the whole we are a pretty good team and get on with the job in hand.Being a carer takes such a lot of your life away but it also gives you a lot back.I love my husband so much and would do anything at any time to make sure he is happy and well cared for.I strongly recommend reading the book xxIrene

This book is very useful. Don't worry if you don't have a lot of time, you can dip in and out of it.

Just purchased this book on Magic's advice. Going to try and get my Mum to read it, as it may help her with caring for my Grandma. Fingers crossed.

Hi Magic

Have bought the book on your recommendation, haven't had time to start reading it yet. You should be on commission!

Hi Smudge,

Another couple of books for you , I had them from the MNDA and found them valuable in the content and the plain way they describe everything, written by specialists in MND and therefore know all too well about the problems we face and are going too in the future, Would recommend them to you if you want the bare facts and written so you can read the part you want to know about and leave it until another hurdle comes along.

At your fingertips. Motor Neurone Disease by Dr Frank Clifford Rose & The Facts MND by Kevin Talbot & Rachael Marsden

Pete, you are a star!

Not exactly on a par with the Fifty Shades trilogy, but now on my book list.
