My partner has had MND for about 9 years, he has always struggled with his weight but just recently he has been losing weight he is 6 foot 4 and weighs under 11 Stone I was just wondering if anyone else has had experience with struggling to gain weight?

I am a carer Emzy and understand that weight loss is a common feature of MND. My husband has been advised to eat a high carb and fat diet and so far, after eight months, he has not lost weight. I really think you should contact MND specialist as a dietician may have some helpful advice for you. Ring MNDConnect if you want advice tomorrow. Their phone number is on this site.

Hi emzy,
I recently saw NHS dietician at Aylsham and have no weight problem at present but was given several advice sheets which are very comprehensive. If you send me a Private Message with your e-mail address I will scan them to you.

Hi, I am carer to my husband, John who has MND. He lost over a stone and a half since last autumn. He is maintaining his weight at the moment fairly well by supplementing his diet with Ensure drinks (around 350 calories per bottle, in a variety of flavours). I think there are other kinds of high calories drinks around. They can be prescribed for you by the Dietician or other health professional. He also has porridge with double cream and maple syrup in the mornings! Sometimes he will have a cup of tea with a chocolate cake bar or soft fruit cake. Hope this helps.

Hi Emzy, I have lost 2 stone in weight since I was diagnosed in March, that is why I decided to have the Rig done, I didn`t want to have it done but my dietitian advised me to have it because my appetite was not good, I am never hungry. so now I am hoping that I gain weight.
I can still eat all food but its fluids I have a problem with.
kindest regards,
Katie
