Our brain and spinal fluid are sealed off from the rest of our body by a protective mechanism called the Blood Brain Barrier. This accounts for why diseases of the brain are comparitively rare. The disadvantage of the BBB is that it makes it extremely difficult to deliver any therapeautic or nutrtional material to the brain.

You will discover on some of the other sites that folk are taking almost toxic doses of Vit E and CoQ10 in the hope that in high concentration the supplement will cross the BBB. I have read claims that daily intravenous injections of Glutathione have halted the progress of the disease for two years in one patient. No one is offering any proof that supplemnts actually work.

You can read about the BBB here http://www.daviddarling.info/encyclopedia/B/blood-brain_barrier.html

The new research centre in Sheffield has as one of it's objectives:
"Develop new ways of getting treatments into the brain across the blood brain barrier. For this we will use tiny polymer ‘nanoparticles’ and gene therapy using safe viral vector technologies."
