Hi Chris

i guess you have access to a social services OT? if you do they refer you. so you need to ask him/her. but beware as i said to you they will try and palm you off with a cheapo variety. they tried to give me a invacare spectra, having sought advice on the build uk look here

http://www.magimedia.co.uk/buildforum/viewtopic.php?t=4902&highlight=wheelchair

then this one

http://www.magimedia.co.uk/buildforum/viewtopic.php?t=4694

i dont think i need to say anymore... now i have on order a quickie salsa r, but i had to contribute 1007 towards it - that was for a 6mph speed upgrade, seat riser, and bigger wheels and now after seeing Jeannies monster machine i have added electric elevating legs. i might try and see if i can get yhe MNDA to contribute towards it?

hope this helps

oh yes do it soon it takes ages - mines 10 weeks away and i contacted them in may!

Hi Chris, the best place to start is to get your OT or specialist nurse to refer you to your local DSC, and see what they can offer, this should cost you nothing, if there is optional extras get them to apply to the MNDA for a grant. Regards Mark

The guest speaker at Thursday's meeting is the Clinical Specialist Occupational Therapist from Walton Centre, you may be able to nab her after her presentation and get some advice and/or contact numbers. Cheeky I know but if you don't ask .....

Just another thought Chris, if you can't get a power wheelchair supplied keep looking on themobilitymarket.co.uk who have used items for sale you can sometimes pick up a decent version cheaper because it is a used item. You can also sell any unwanted items of your own on there.

Hi Chris

I'm starting to try to come to terms with needing one too - but still have my head in the sand! Maybe one day soon... I hope you get the best you can and it helps.

Best wishes, Paul

I would suggest checking out some medical supplies stores to get an idea for prices. Then you'll be better prepared to deal with your insurance and ask the right questions.

I suggest you compare prices with ENGLISH stores! Not with these American spammers...........

We got a mobility scooter for my father, who had MND for 9 years. If anyone is interested please PM me.

Did you get your electric wheelchair? Two NHS therapists came round last week and gave me a brand new spectra xtr2. I kept waiting for the bill but it never came. So, no help with a toilet, but a free wheelchair! I'm sure it makes sense to someone somewhere...
