Hi i just wanted to check how i go about being test for MND. My Mum passed away in 2008 from it. Is it as simple as going to the doctor and asking them for a blood test. I do believe it can run in families. I am now 29. Is this something i could have done now?

Thanks.

Hi SA82

You can have a gene test where they will look for a gene called SOD1. which is the common gene related to MND

Ask your GP to arrange it for you.

Hi SA82,

I posted this elsewhere, but just in case you miss the other post here it is again:

You may find this page of our website useful to you:

http://www.mndassociation.org/research/what_causes_mnd/how_much_of_mnd_is_inherited/index.html

But the section that I think might be of most interest is the information sheet here (http://www.mndassociation.org/document.rm?id=691)called inherited MND. It does have some contact details on and goes into much more detail about the chances of MND running within a family.

Our Connect Team are more than happy to discuss this with you if you'd like. Their number is: 08457 62 62 62.

I hope that helps,

Robyn
