    Exercises for MND ?

    morning Everyone,

Just wondering if you can help me, I am off today to see the Physio who insists these exercises are doing me some good, I have my own ideas but wondered if you can try one out, obviously only if your able to still walk ,,,well like me I need a Rollator to get about , so don't risk hurting yourself Please, I have several pages of them but the ones I really struggle with are standing on one leg eyes closed and then on the other and repeat this four times on each leg , the second one is standing on one leg and withe the free foot writing the numbers with your toes the numbers 1 2 3 have to say I have no idea what benefit these may have , the third one is place one foot directly in front of the other and pretend your on a tightrope see how long you can stand like that ?. would really like to know if anyone can do these, or it it me just a lost cause ?.

    Regards
    Pete

    Hi Pete,
remember being requested to complete these movements when I was waiting for my diagnosis back in febuary, at the time was walking with a limp and drop foot, pain in the back.I was unable to complete at that stage, but I was not using any aides to balance.I was still working at the time with a lot of ladder work.I have a physio session on monday for shoulders and wednesday for back I will see if I can pick up some tips, like you think if you dont use it you will lose it.Be carefull with the eyes shut with that one, talking from experience being a clumbsey so and so.

    best wishes.

    Morning Roy,

How's the back doing , hope it's getting easier for you, and the shoulders have eased up now ,as for these exercises ,what i can say is I don't seem to get the leg cramps any more since I started so that's one good thing , she has the most incredible blue eyes, that's one reason I keep going back, and just wondered if it was me ,I never suffered with balance problems before but now it is dire, we will see after the visit today.

    Regards
    Pete

Ps will PM you later haven't forgot just been a bit hectic .

Hi Pete - there is no way I could do any of the exercises you mention. Imagining doing them reminds me of the days I used to do yoga when I could balance without thinking. Just enquired about a stairlift today - having admitted to myself that it makes sense.

    Hi Pete,
went to physio today in fact to sort shoulders, which involved an excercise program with coloured elastic to get movement back, so fingers crossed with that one,but better news the lovely lady refered a physio specialist to call to my home who helps people with neuro conditions -think thats a good result.where I live is on the borders of three counties oxon, bucks and berks. I have to deal with berks, but have been refered to an oxford physio a bit complicated really.
