    PEG unsuccessful does anyone have a NG tube?

    I went into hospital in August to have a PEG fitted but the procedure was stopped because my stomach had moved up and it was too close to my diaphragm .I am thinking about an NG tube as a method of feeding, does anyone have one and how do you find it do your carers cope with it ok, can anyone suggest a different type of feeding

    Hi Rumba;

    I have heard of that happening a couple of times before. There are a number of different operations for feeding tubes, I think that they all end up in a similar place.

    There have also been people that have used a NG tube for a long time but I don't know it's drawbacks etc.

    Best try to speak to your specialist team about it all.

    If you're in anyway unhappy with that Gastroenterology Surgeon's opinion, it may be no harm in getting a 2nd opinion from another G Surgeon.
    How was it left? What alternatives were discussed? Or was it just a "sorry love, we couldn't do it"... I sincerely hope not!!
    (Fwiw, I know a lady whose incision site is nearly at her bra!)

    An NG Tube lasts about 6wks then has to be changed, and new tube goes in other nostril to minimise irritation. Tube replacements must be done in hospital and the position of it checked.

    A few people here have had NG Tubes, yes.

    Love Ellie.

    My mother had an NG tube, which she used very successfully for many months. I'm not sure how often it needed changing but it wasn't replaced in hospital. My niece had one for an altogether different reason and my sister-in-law was taught how to replace it when it became dislodged.

    Hi got the NGT fitted on Tuesday the nurse has visited us to show Jay how to do the bolus feeds. it feels really strange at the moment having the tube at the back of my throat and it's making it more difficult to swallow at the moment too. the nurse said that it should get better with in a week. I seem to be coughing a lot while drinking and eating. hopefully it will improve. this morning had a bit of a panic when my carer managed to dislodge it while dressing me but got it fixed ok
