    1 day vehicle hire

    Does anyone have information on places to hire a WAV in Essex/Kent? We'd like to be able to take my dad out for a day, but everywhere we have tried have said that there is a 3 or 4 day minimum hire period.
    Thanks very much!

    Hi,

    It may be worth checking out cab firms or a specialist travel service for the disabled to see if you could do a deal for your outing in an accessible minibus type vehicle.

    Good luck, hope you get something,
    Ellie x.

    Actually, have you checked if Thrifty Car Rental offer WAV rental in your area? They advertise 1 day rentals.

    Hi Ellie, thanks for suggesting them. They only do 1 day hire between Monday and Thursday. Not that great when I work Mon-Fri and want to go out at the weekend for an afternoon.

    The local taxi firms are looking at costing £200+ for a couple of hours and I don't think we can afford that. We're going to speak to the hospice, perhaps we can borrow one of their vehicles

    Hi;

    You could ask "Ransome Mobility" in Ipswich. I think that the owner is called Sam. He does rent out one WAV and sells, etc them.

    He might know someone in your area that does the same.

    It is also worth asking any firm that sells them or adapts them.

    Hi met-rex,

    Do you or your dad attend a local MNDA meeting? Our branch will fund a day trip because the money we raise is to improve quality of life.

    Thanks Terry, I'll check that out.

    Barry, no we don't. I was told that MNDA meetings are not the family/carers so don't have a lot to do with them. I don't think dad is aware of anything locally. He goes to the local hospice for a couple of hours every week though.

    Hi;

    Ask Mnda connect about any local meetings or branches. The meetings are normally for people like you and me. Some areas only have fund raising teams so they might not be so helpful but it's still well worth contacting them.

    MNDA Connect gave me the contact for my local branch, who said that they didn't offer anything for family members, just the person living with MND. I'll check to see if there is anything local to my dad, any help is always well received!

    Hi;

    What you are asking for is for your dad. The meetings should be for anyone affected by Mnd which normally includes their families. They also should help your dad's partner with some things.

    The people are normally very friendly and sympathetic. I hope you get somewhere with them and if not call the Mnda connect and explain things. You might not get what you want but maybe some help towards things.

    Also ask about "AV's" association visitor's, FOR your dad and mum.
