    `Pink:
I have been down this road recently. Before I respond there is a critical question:
Do you intend to drive yourself?
The answer leads to very different decision pathways.

Hi Terry. The taxi would have been one with a lift.
Njm I wouldn't be driving. It will be my husband that will be driving.

There are many second-hand WAVs available.
You could try Motability for a brand new one if you have higher level PIP.
However it might be more economical to buy a second hand one and use the PIP for other expenses.
Try ALLIED MOBILITY for used ones.

Thanks Charles. I thought I had to forfeit for either option?

I am not sure what you mean by your question.
If you have higher PIP with a mobility component you need to contact MORTABILITY and see if you are eligible for their scheme if over 65.
If you are 65+ you may not be.
In that case keep your PIP for other expenses and buy a used WAV. They are reasonably priced.
Even if you are eligible do the sums. It may still be better to buy a used one depending on your cash disposal and expected usage. If you are going to run around locally you might decide you don't need a new one. Its a personal decision.

Hi Charles. Sorry I should have said I'm 55. I think I'm going to ring allied mobility today and get some info. Wed be happy with a second hand one.

They are also available from many other places and ebay, preloved and gumtree although not probably much grantee.

Try them out before you buy one, with you in your wheelchair over a roughish road and at speed.

    ink:
You can get used WAVS (2-3 years old) on Motability. The new ones come with a higher down payment and a 5 year lease. The used ones have a very low down payment but come with a 3 year lease.
So to answer your question: If you think you will use a WAV for longer than 3 7years then a new one is probably a better idea. Unless you get a 8used one and then in three years get another used one.
