Hi everyone. I'm Paul from Herefordshire, UK and have just joined the forum. I was diagnosed with Bulbar Onset MND in June this year, but my symptoms began December 2010.

My symptoms presently include total loss of speech, swallowing difficulties, loss of strength in my right arm and hand, swollen fingers, fingers curling inwards, pain in both shoulders, elbows, knees and back, easily scared, all muscles jump when I walk, emotional lability.

Being unable to speak has seriously messed up my flying which was one of my main hobbies. I can still use the controls ok, but without my voice it's impossible.

I've just sold my motorcycle for safety reasons due to the weakness in my right arm and hand, and struggling with the throttle and front brake.

But, I still see hope for the future and I'm convinced a cure for MND is imminent.

    Hi Paul,

My mum also has Bulbar Onset - diagnosed in Sept 2010. Like you her speech has gone and uses a Lightwriter to communicate.

You'll find a great bunch of people on here and the forum a valuable resource of information. As for the future it certainly is an exciting time with research into MND.
