    Mothering Sunday reflections

My mum died of breast cancer when I was a teenager. I still remember the smell and feel of the cotton aprons she wore, like most working-class women in the forties and fifties. She was beautiful. Slim, almost gaunt, as this idealized portrait of her shows.

So, in her absence, Id like to send a super-sterile, socially distanced hug to all mums on the Forum. You are much in the thoughts of your children today, even if they cant be with you.

    Lovely sentiments Doug,

I spoke on FaceTime today with my mum who is 89 and she said she wished she could swap places with me. It brought a tear to my eye and I wish I was there to hug her but that’s off for at least 12 weeks.

Lovely words Doug and Barry. That's a brilliant photo Doug !

I am lucky enough to be able to speak to my mum who's 89 twice a day and she has always said she wishes she could swap places with me. It's been a strange mother's day but our sons blew kisses through the patio doors and left deliveries outside and they did the same at my mum's. We all face timed later.

At the risk of sounding sentimental, although there were no hugs, I could feel the love, which is the most important thing. I am a proud Mummy !

Hope everyone stays safe and well,
    Love Debbie x

I love the portrait of your mum, Doug - really special.

I'm fortunate that both my kids are here with me, staying put, but of course I couldn't see my mother or grandmother today - well not physically see them anyway!!

    Love Ellie.
