Rosemary6NT Hi Rosemary, I think the mechanism is gas lift technology - a bit like in an office chair. You can adjust the amount of ‘give’ going down and ‘lift’ going up to suit your weight. I can’t stand from a low chair at all. My arms are much weaker than my legs, but both are poor. This cushion helps a great deal. I know some people don’t like purchasing from Amazon, but a good point is that you can send things back very easily if they don’t fit the bill… so I would say to give it a go.

Thanks PeterPan I looked on Amazon but couldn't find that particular model but did find one on Ebay at £45, Still pondering...Diagnosed 18th May 2021 with sporadic ALS. Limb onset. Terrified of not being able to breathe easily.Comment
