Neck Support

Hi all,

Belated Happy New Year,

Does anyone have any good neck support? My husband has tried several , but tends to find them claustrophic. He's tried the Headmaster, Sheffield and Hereford ones. It's getting tricky now - it measn it's harder for him to use the eye gaze as his neck (and eyes) get tired.

It is very comfortable and the support is customised to the shape of the neck and chin area. You can have a choice of supports at the front and also the sides if required. Because it is thin and quite discreet it almost looks like you are wearing a scarf or a snood (see the YouTube video above). You can buy them yourself but in my case the splint workshop at my local hospital sourced it for me and fitted the supports. The fabric is washable as you can get quite warm sometimes wearing it.

Hi Katy,

I have worn all the collars your husband has, and several more, over the years.

I now wear an Ortel C3 Thusane rigid collar with chin support. I stressed the chin support because the collar need not be so tight around the neck as the chin support does the heavy lifting. It's not perfect - my clavicles need cushioning to protect them - but it's height adjustable and cheap enough to buy yourself at £20-25. My OT gave it to me.

I don't wear it as tightly as in the photo - he clearly does not have head drop 😏 I use eye gaze too.

Going to give the Ortel C3 a try... the Sheffield/ Taylormade was fine initially, but as head/neck drop became worse we found the struts started to show signs of cracking.
