    Which shower toilet is best?

So I’m looking to get a shower toilet installed (the wash dry one). Gerberit have been recommended by Social Services but are stupidly expensive whereas I could get other brands for a third of the price. My question, is there a difference between a Gerberit (or similar toilet designed for the disabled) or one costing far less on non-disabled specific websites? I can’t see the reason for the additional cost.

CW100 Hi. We initially got a “washloo” toilet seat which had remote control for washing and drying. It was very good and did the job perfectly. It was around £400 pounds. The company is based in North Wales. We bought this ourselves.
However as my husband deteriorated we needed a higher toilet so purchased the “Gerebit”; which you can raise to specific heights. Our council paid for this. So I’d ask them would they purchase it.
Have a look on the “washloo” web sight first before deciding. Good luck x

Do you have an example of one of the alternative loos CW100 ?

Sometimes the difference is not so much functionality, rather how a shower chair can fit over the loo; whether there is a seat sensor and, if there is, can it be disabled/overridden; to a lesser extent, how the controls are operated. xx

After much research, our OT advised that the Geberit "care" toilet is the only one that works with a shower chair - as it will work without any weight being placed directly on the seat.

Toilet duly installed 17th December 2021 (unusual Christmas Gift) 😁, self funded with a welcome contribution from MNDA, now hubby is reliant upon a shower chair, so good call from the OT.

I had looked at the cheaper toilet seat options and could have made an expensive mistake. OT advice is priceless.

Also the Geberit has a remote control unit which can be used by a carer - outside of the bathroom if necessary ! helpful for dignity and where patient may not have hand function.

I have the geberit and love it. I can still just about use my phone and can control the toilet with an app which Is great for my independence.

I bought it online and saved about 15% plus vat exemption and a grant from MNDA

We had one fitted by Social Services. It’s just called a Smart Toilet. I was a bit dubious at first as I’d never heard of it but it’s very good. It doesn’t have a hand held control (it’s just attached on the side) but it has all the required functions. We also have a Bio-bidet (an unwanted item that was donated to us) which is also very good but I think are more expensive.

As Ellie says…. can you fit a shower chair over it?

There are some that you cannot as the bowl does not come forward enough from the cistern. Also the Geberit has three different installation heights to choose from.

This was the major decision factor when we chose one 👍

We have a bio bidet. Our wheelchair doesn't fit over the top
I'm not sure how it would work with regard to having a suitable shower chair high enough to fit over because there's a sensor on the loo seat that needs to be covered and will water leak between seat and loo?
when i can think of something profound i will update this.

This is the benefit of the Geberit loo as it can be set to not need to be activated by the sensor. Attendant controlled. It has buttons on the side of the loo, a wall mounted sensor to activate the programme and separate remote control.

Hubby's tilt in space shower chair has a skirt fitted to prevent water spraying between the toilet and the chair, thus preventing spraying the whole room. There is a gap at the front so get some leakage of the clean water spray so each visit is accompanied by a mop. Only caution is that if the shower function is activated with noone on the toilet it will go through entire programme. So fitter had to make sure we had suitable standard waterproof light fittings.

There is a wheeled, height adjustable shower chair with a mesh seat for loos with a bio bidet - getting one provided is a whole other matter, I'm sure 🙄😘
