    Disabled Persons Council Tax Reduction.

There is some recent discussion about wheelchairs and PIP benefits, so just for awareness:
I know different local authorities do things their own way, but my lot (Stroud Council) offer a "reduction on your (Council Tax) bill if you or someone in your home is ‘substantially and permanently disabled".
Some of the eligibility criteria are about how rooms are used, so I was looking up the rules for when our accessible annex is finished. However, I discovered that we can apply under this criteria right now: "sufficient floor space to permit the use of a wheelchair which is required for meeting the needs of the disabled person in the home".
May be worth looking up the Council Tax rules in your area for something similar.

They are sending an Assessor round in a couple of weeks.
I will let you know how it goes.
    Hi, I'm Eddie.
Started with wobbly left ankle in Nov 2020. Diagnosed 22 Oct 2021, confirmed by 2nd opinion 4 days later.
Full time powerchair user. Overnight NIV. PEG'ed but still eating. Voice banked but still talking.
Still wondering what the future will bring.

I’ve just applied for this as well, so I’ll be interested to hear how you get on.

Chris got that council tax reduction last year. They sent someone out, a really nice fella. He saw Chris in his wheelchair and said he met the criteria.
I asked about backdating it and he phoned me later that day and said it would be backdated to his date of diagnosis.
Chris also got a further £200 as he is accepted as disabled in the councils eyes and I think it was money from the government given to local councils to help those in need with the cost of living crisis.

        Bosh, done, simples
Council assessor was a nice chap who was only here for 10 minutes.
Agreed to reduce our Council Tax down to the lower band and backdated it to last April.
        Worth doing

That's a good result that you both got the reductions without too much bureaucracy!
