    Help with claims advice

Sorry if this has been asked before.
I have just been diagnosed with Progressive Bular Palsay.
I have a critical illness plan which does cover MND. If I use this to pay off my mortgage will any remaining money affect any claims I may be entitled to?
I have business debts too, so should I use this to pay off all my debts?
Is it a good idea to use to small amount of savings I have on say a holiday. Would rather do that that it go to the tax man -I have never claimed any benefits in my life and have worked very hard without much play.
Do I need a financial adviser or can the MNDA Association help with this sort of advice? It's all very overwhelming.
    Many thanks.
    Annie.

    Hi Annie,
Very sorry to hear of your diagnosis. I'm not a fount of knowledge but I know that PIP isn't means tested. There will be many people on the forum who know more about this. Also, you should get help and advice to fill in any forms. Do you have a local MNDA support group?
Enjoy a holiday while you are able.
It is all extremely overwhelming and I would say unreal. Grasp any help offered to you.
    Take care,
    Bern x

Hi Annie, we had to have our home adapted to help ,so we used savings so Tom could be independent for as long as possible, we thought it better all round, rather than getting carers in sooner.
Take a break and enjoy what your hard work has been about.
      Mnda will help alot.Lorret

Thank you Lorret. Yes, I too wish to stay at home and as independent as possible for as long as possible. I only have a small so it will need some adapting. Annie

            Hello and welcome Annie,

Depending on your age, I assume you are not yet state pension age you should be entitled to full PIP which includes disability and living allowance. This is not means tested and is approximately £150 per week. You can apply online or ask MNDA benefits advice for assistance. Some of us have also used the free service provided by a local hospice. They are a great source of advice and support and the claim form can be very daunting. When completing the paperwork always state how you cope on your worst day. Similarly when you claim from your critical illness provider state motor neurone disease as some insurers don't always recognise terms like PBP.

You mention small savings which should not be taxed unless you receive interest of more than £1000 per year. If you are awarded the full PIP and you are under 65 years of age you may want to consider a Motability vehicle since you can change this as your needs change. Motability take the mobility element of PIP directly from your allowance.

Sound advice from Bern and Lorett. Take a well deserved holiday while you are mobile.

            Best wishes,
            Barry

I see you have critical life Insurance that cover MND but has your claim been accepted? The reason I ask is that some forum members have had claims refused. I claimed under Terminal Illness and my claim was accepted once a DS1500 had been issued and my PIP payment had been upgraded to include the mobility payment.
