Divorce – solicitors versed in disability cases?

Sorry to ask, my wife has announced she wants to divorce. I’m the one with MND and had the house adapted a few years back, we have two children 11 & 14. She seems to have premeditated this as came out in argument she has already had legal advice, so feel a bit exposed.

I am currently the bread winner, still working full time with MND and she has a part time job that funds her own life style and doesn’t contribute towards the bills/running of the house.

I’m not sure if getting a solicitor who is versed in the disability area would help fight my corner, as even with a 50/50 split I would find it impossible finding suitable accommodation with this settlement (and appreciate in 9/10 cases the judge will side with the mother and children).

That's hard then Adrian;

Whether there is any statute law about disabled having any right to stay or not I don't have any idea and I guess there is loads the other way. it might be worth a consultation with a specialist that deals with disability and divorce.

Hello go to a law Centre or maybe welfare rights , It depends on the team of solicitors whether they are up-to-date on divorce and disability ,a L a W Centre probably has more clients who need advice about this .The person deciding on custody of your children ,will be the one who will help on who is more responsible !as the person deciding on granting your decree Will take into account the attitudes of the two parties

Sorry for your troubles. There is a site called 'Avvo' you can google it. It free legal advice, its based in the US, but you can ask your questions pertaining to your situation, and lawyers will respond back to you with their expert advice.

There are different categories of lawyers to choose from i.e Divorce, Personal Injury, Labor etc....you pick one ask your questions and then a bunch of lawyers in that field will respond to you. The premise is of this site is for people to retain a lawyer thru it, but it does give great advice so people can get a better understanding of where they stand in their situation under the court of law.

I'm not sure if it would work for you being your in the UK but its worth a try....if only to get some information on your legal rights.
