    Hi Miranda,

Yes your right , looking back not to far in the past , life must have been very difficult for people in our position, For me now the biggest heartbreak is not for me or the wife we cope ,but not being able to tell my one and only grandaughter , just how amazing she is ,mind you only being a month old ,perhaps wishfull thinking i will be around when she is old enough to understand, who knows maybe i will be ??

    regards
    pete

Imagine how much worse this would be for those of us who can no longer speak if we did not have technology like texting and emails. It was only a few years ago that such resources and all the other gizmos that are such a help were not widely available.

    Hi all

If you've been reading the guardian lately you'll have read about fitness first and unfair contracts/exorbitant cancellation fees.

When my physical condition deteriorated i wrote to virgin with a doctor's letter and they cancelled my gym membership with no fee. And now that i can barely speak i wrote to t-mobile and they cancelled my mobbile phone contact wth no fee - saving me c. £200.

So, small comfort perhaps, but it can be worth doing.
