    Holiday insurance

The last timeq we went abroad, February 2012, we paid £160 for 1 weeks's European travel insurance. I approached Saga again yesterday for a quote for 1 week in Majorca in June. They refused to cover us. the only discernible change has been the introduction of NIV at night. I ended up paying £381 from another firm. Saga were unable to say why they had refused our request this time. I found this very disconcerting it's like taking part in a game whe rules can change without any explanation. How have others coped with getting travel insurance?

We are going on holiday next week.My husband used Post Office insurance . Although the form asks specific questions none of which applied to me, I asked him to phone and explain my illness and how it is mainly mobility that is a problem and there was no problem - no increased premium.

Just rung POmand they will not cover his health needs. don't know if it's because he had a brain tumour or the fact that he has help with breathing at night.
        Thanks anyway.

Just taken out holiday insurance with Worldwide Travel Insurance Ltd. (www.worldwideinsure.com) The usual questions about medical conditions and general health but they covered my wife and me for a 100 day world trip at £410 plus £85 for medical declaration PLS, although they list it as MND and a heart attack 5 years ago.
I’m going to do this even if it kills me!

What exactly is a holiday insurance? This is the first time that I have heard of it.

                Hi chasityrobles,

There are all kinds of different terms and conditions depending on what travel insurance you choose. Briefly travel insurance is bought to cover any possible medical expenses and various other losses that might happen during a holiday. You can usually buy it to cover a specific holiday period and location. You usually arrange it at the same time you book a holiday. Coverage varies, and things like an illness, medical conditions or 'extreme sports' can effect the cost and also how difficult it is to find an insurer.

You'll see lots of discussion about it on the forum because of the complications of finding insurance for someone living with MND.

                I hope that helps,

                Robyn

Hi we been trying to get insurance for egypt holiday in feb next year, hubby got MND and ive got IESCHEMIC HEART , Stay sure qouted on line £79 but when i rang to confirm and filled in questionaire they came back with £799 big difference !!! . We rang Fish and they gave us £10,0000 medical cover for £180 we paid it straight away so we know we covered. When hubby went in Papworth hospital he came home with a NIPPY machine and told us he will have to go for a flight test 2 weeks before holiday date to see if he can fly so it might turn out we not covered after all and have to cancel holiday which is so sad (

We booked to travel with Thompson on a cruise to Egypt and the holy land just last week we leave tomorrow. The incremental insurance cost for travel insurance for me with MND was just £58. This is pretty reasonable. Hope this helps

                      Hi hr,
You have confused me,you state you are an insurance broker on your introductory post,
I was quite keen to contact you regarding all my financial and insurance needs, you have just
Mentioned that all insurers are mean and greedy, now here is the question I am very passionate
to invest all my savings but I'm not convinced your the right person as you implied that you are a
Dishonest person. Don't worry it's not too late to repent, sell your land, part with all your money and
use it to make a positive change for people in need.try to refrain from ripping off insurance companies
turn over a fresh new leaf.

                        morning Roy,

Well our Andrew must have had four weta bix today, zapped HR before I could respond, to what seemed a wonderful proposition, Rory, Miranda, And Big Bob ain't going to be well pleased knowing they have missed out on such a wonderful opportunity to increase their real estate holdings and no doubt Buzzer B would have liked to hear about things going on in Spain , and the chance to get insurance from such a source well , need to sit down and overcome the disappointment .

You are so right Pete ! It would have been good to have seen that thread. Before I was a banker to the insurance industry, I was an underwriter and then a broker (registered and ACII qualified) so i would have given HR some comment I am sure !
Personally , I don't buy insurance because I am invincible - no , Roy, not invisible , that remains to be seen !

                          Another disappointing thread missed.

What time do you lot wake up ?

                          Have a good day

                          Cheers

                          Rory

                            Morning Pete and Rory,

I guess we get a few people on here with special needs like us but in a different way,I suppose it's wrong to have a bit of
fun Hrs post wasn't offensive no more than mine.Although on the other hand it does spoil was was an informative thread
so I would ask Andrew to if possible to move these light hearted fun posts to other topics if possible.
I protects the integrity of original thread.
2 prevents me from looking like an even bigger Numpty than I am
3 it's fun turns an absolutely average day to one with humour.
4 gives me and others h chance to get on our soap boxes.

                            Best wishes.

                            Roy.

                              Roy,

I am pretty sure that as the last post was October, I am sure magic wont mind , and just to say there is a big difference to what you do to make a bit of light hearted fun ,that makes our lives a bit more bearable , it it's not as bad as hijacking a current thread , that to someone means that is needing help, so matey if Andrew see's fit to move them I am sure he will , and lets be honest if we loose that wonderful ability to smile and laugh, well that is a very sad day indeed,

                              Pete
