In a posh place I was at, they had a gentle slope to a long drain at the wall so you didn't have a drain in the middle.

Our council wet room was already in.

Get a hair catcher drain that you don't need to unscrew with a screw driver. Only been here 4 months and had to clean it regularly.

Or the place floods to the door.

Also I would tile or the plastic tile sheets on all walls and surfaces. The water goes everywhere to be honest.

Especially from the floor up.

Getting a closomat retro fitted. If you can have wheelchair wide doors, I would.

This place has normal doorways and it is a pain. Mum paid extra to have more walls tiled and up grade the quality of the flooring.

Chrissywissy I’m a bit late to this thread so you might be sorted now. You don’t mention whether you wetroom is upstairs or downstairs - definitely makes a difference to cost it is possible to fully tank upstairs, but it’s potentially more problematic than a downstairs one.

We’ve just finished renovations on our house, and have had a downstairs wetroom put in. We went for Altro flooring in the end with fully porcelain tiled walls. Looks really nice and is definitely low maintenance and grippy enough for me/the carers to not slip. We opted for no screen around the shower, and the drainage has been done by angling the screed floor to make sure the water drains correctly and keeps it where it should be. We had the luxury of building our wetroom from scratch though, so we’re able to build it to government accessible wetroom guidelines, which means it’s reasonably big. We also were able to put in underfloor heating which helps keep the room warm, but also dries the floor really well. I’ve got some pictures somewhere if that would help?

I also have a downstairs wetroom which was built from scratch. Our integral garage has been converted to a wetroom and bedroom . I have Altro flooring which is excellent and it goes over an underfloor ‘shower tray’ so there’s no step. The tray has a gradient so it drains very easily. We also have underfloor heating that dries the floor quickly. On the walls we used wall panels which I have found to be excellent.

Wetroom is downstairs. Where a garage would be usually at the side of a house but its a covered carport. It couldnt be as huge as I liked due to drainage and other stuff ( I forgot to take off foundations of of size lol). Its the side of our house as opposed to an actual garage which would have been easier as soil pipes wouldnt be there etc, Our electric board is the other side of our house to the wetroom so carpets up at somepoint etc. .Its being built as we speak so any input and pictures would be great. Our dining room will be the bedroom and a door straight through to the wetroom. What altro flooring did you get, Aquarius or pisces? What did you do about the toilet? The OT said they may fund a gerberit ( Im guessing the add on bit rather than the actual toilet as we are funding the wetroom ourselves) so not sure what toilet is best for conversion.

Just a thought here Chrissy, our wetroom was only completed end Dec 2020, BUT already we are having to have the toilet replaced as its not suitable for whats now needed, I hate the thought of the waste of money etc,

We are now going to have a bio-bidet,

Albert uses a commode which I push him over the loo, you have to be careful for heights etc etc, this is the reason we now need the original high toilet (500mm) out to be replaced by a 450mm which will then allow the Bio bidet to be fitted - meanwhile the commode chair is now all wrong to suit the Bio so that also has to be replaced with a suitable alternative,

Just things to think of,

I don't get alerts either and I have ticked the required setting!

Yes, Im currently looking at what toilets are compatible with the gerberit add ons. Minefield. Seems like naff all if you want an ideal standard floor type toilet but if you want a wall hanging sort costing loads more seems ok. Im more partial to a floor standing toilet...always think a wall hanging one will come off the wall but perhaps its my age. Is a wall hanging even suitable for later on MND? Nothing is simple..even with a flaming toilet. I saw MaryC trials with her bio bidet and chair so just trying to pre-empty any problems. `

Really good point Suefromwakey . When we had our wetroom done we had the highest loo possible to make it easier for me to get up from. It seems to be too high for a commode chair so we need a new one with a bio bidet.

Its really hard to look ahead Chrissywissy ... just something to consider.. as if you don't have enough to think about xxx

I’m having the same problem we’ve got a Geberit but the shower chair/commode I’ve waited for months to arrive does not fit, they brought another one to try, they said it should fit with a few adjustments but then realised I can’t get on the commode using the Return as it’s too high 🤦🏼♀️ So now they’re going to put smaller castors on and build my Return platform up, it’s just one thing after another 🤦🏼♀️

Chrissywissy - sounds like it’s moving at pace! We went for Aquarius flooring and have a Clos-o-mat toilet, which my wife uses a commode chair over. MNDA contributed £1500 towards the cost. I’ve attached a few pics.

Stubot Many thanks for those. Your wetroom is lovely. Our room look the same sort of size, ours may be a tad smaller. Looked so big on paper but with the foundations etc...shrunk somewhat lol.
Had an email from the OT. Would be a bio bidet they may supply which having a quick look last night, might be easier to find compatible toilets with. Trying to look ahead as much as possible if possible as it were. Thank you so much for your input. Deb

We’ve just had our wet room done, paid for by the council. We boarded ours over the tiles but we had to pay the difference in price from the white tiles. The floor is fine, anti slip. We’re very pleased with it.
