    Netflix Suggestions

I thought I'd start a thread other than discussing MND, if that's allowed..
A chance to spend time together for me and my partner is to watch a series, documentary or movie together.
I guess a mix of Netflix, Amazon Prime and the classic BBC iPlayer. Does anyone else do this to relax/take there mind off things?
I have lists of shows that I could recommend, but we enjoy taking note of new recommendation's too to give a try.

Has anyone watched something recently that you would recommend?

Ooh, thanks Tess. I'd love some suggestions too!!

We are almost finished watching Ozark on Netflix and are really enjoying it. I'd describe it as the Breaking Bad equivalent of the money laundering business, with the 'baddie' as likeable as Walter White - of course if you've not seen Breaking Bad, that comparison will be meaningless, but there's another recommendation for you

We also watched The Stranger, The Sinner, The Crown (with my daughter as hubby sneered at it ) old Line of Duty series (all good enough to rewatch) but IDK what's next to watch...

Completely at the other end of the scale is Grace & Frankie and The Kominsky Method, both Netflix. I particularly enjoyed Grace & Frankie for a guaranteed laugh and they're only 30mins or so an episode.

If you've Sky Boxsets, Succession is quite good. Gangs of London was entertaining, if a bit OTT in violence at times.

If I come across more I'll try to remember to post the details! What are you watching?

    Take care.

    Love Ellie.

Ooo we've not seen the Kominsky method, I'll need to add this to the list.

We have seen Ozark, Breaking bad, the sinner (I call it creepy crime) and the Stranger, it's almost embarrassing how much we have binge watched during covid.
BBC iPlayer have had a few good crime investigation ones some older and some newer: Unforgotten, the Split, Capture, the Nest, Line of Duty of course and the Bodyguard was brilliant when that came out (waiting for season 2). All binge worthy I'd say.

The recent ones we've been watching is Hunters (Amazon prime), Snowpiercer and Hollywood (Netflix), all decent and quite different from one another

In all honesty i think we'll be onto movies soon. Maybe a bit of mamma Mia 2 this weekend haha. He laughed at me when I suggested watching the first one and then caught him humming the tunes the next few days. Was golden.

          Thanks for those, guys!

I'd forgotten about The Americans - that's now on the list, thanks Matthew.

Tess, how brave are you to suggest Mamma Mia to your partner The first one was bad enough for me

          Enjoy.

Thanks for starting this thread Tess. I'm going to try some of these suggestions.

I've been really sad and just watched Downton Abbey in it's entirity including the film. In my defence I used to watch it on a Sunday when I was busy so I only half watched it the first time round. I've also watched Anne with an E on Netflix which is really lightweight but I loved it . My husband watched it too. I know he'll claim he wasnt watching but he did that with the crown.

We're going to try the split tonight and maybe rewatch Line of duty.
            Love Debbie x

Two more American Horror Story and Gotham. Both have great actors, great script and amazing visual impact. x

Ellie it was one of those situation where he was quite against watching the first Mamma Mia and then I think he secretly enjoyed it and to be nice (but really he didn't mind), he suggested watching the 2nd one. Cheesy beyond belief, but sometimes we need a good bit of cheese.

As if MND wasn't heavy enough I went through a bit of a war movie phase these last few weeks too. But what I love about those, is all the different stories told from different perspectives. I watched The Imitation Game, Mrs Henderson Presents, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, Unbroken, The Pianist, Pearl Harbour....there are far too many. We've just started watching The Man in the High Castle on Amazon prime which one episode in and there has been a twist (got to love a twist).

Debs, I've not heard of Anne with an E, will check it out. Yes, great show, I think a new season of Line of Duty is due out soon, however with Covid I'm not sure if there will be any delays.

Matthew I need to start the American Horror Story but worried what level of horror this will be. Saw it was the same director as 'Hollywood' on Netflix though, so keen to give them a try.

I admit to not really knowing what Netflix is. But if you're into feel-good films, may I suggest Shirley Valentine - and not just because of the fabulous scouse accents.

Very strange. When I first looked at this thread it came up in reverse date order but when I checked a second time it was correct.

                        Hi Doug,

Netflix is basically an application that you can have on your TV or laptop and is a library of hundreds of movies or TV series. It doesn't contain every movie out there but a good selection. It has come in handy during covid where at the flick of a few buttons you can search and watch a good movie. I think it's 8 or 9 pounds a month, however with the amount we've been using it... certainly worth it! Not a sales woman I promise, just addicted to a good crime documentary
I've not seen that one before but will look it up! Love a different accent.

                          Many thanks Tess.

                          All is now clear!

I think I'd need to buy a much newer telly to be able to put applications on it. Sound good though.

If you can stomach the extensive realistic combat violence, another ultimately good-guy-wins film is Hacksaw Ridge.

If TV remotes were meant to be in men's hands, the buttons would be bigger 🤣🤣🤣
