The moment lockdown is over I will be heading north to see mum and take her to Craster for a kipper supper.

matthew55 Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite were only 90 minutes drive from me when I lived in the north east but of course the south lakes are closer to you. I have a friend who volunteers for the RNLI and he has promised to take my ashes to sea.

I thought of having my ashes spread on Uls water. The Lake District is soul food. 😁x

Ah a kindred spirit. Sea or coarse ?
I’m coarse myself. Tried sea in Tenerife but seemed to me to be a bit cast and hope. Oh and it was chuffing hot.[/QUOTE

I started out at an early age with my father who took the family to the Lake District every year so it was pike and perch. In my early teens I would cycle to my local pier for sea fishing and in adulthood I owned a number of boats which I used for sea angling. I was lucky to have lived through an era where there were plenty of fish in the sea but sadly that is no longer the case.

Me and my best friend illegally night fished in Bushy Park that Hamption Court Palace looks over. Every dawn we would be at the right end of the pond to watch the sun come up infront of us, eating the bread and milk we had borrowed from the local shops early delivery. πŸ˜‚x

I used to go fishing with my dad when I was a boy. Mainly lakes where my dad was after carp, but I usually caught perch and roach. He also used to set off at 2am to drive to North Yorkshire to fish in the Swale and Nidd for chub and barbel. I just enjoyed sitting at the edge of the water as the sun came up and all the wildlife came to life.

Whenever I stayed in London I was reminded of where the water had been and came from. Not a happy thought. Though if you can survive that you can survive anything.

We had the cleanest water in London because it had been through 9 human kidneys. πŸ˜‚x

Not to put you off swimming in the river, but all those blokes fishing on the Thames for hours and drinking beer, don’t have access to public toilets !!!

Don't knock it 😁 I was always accompanied by rubbers and rubbish whenever I swam. That's why I have no allergies and until this I was rarely unwell.😁x

I used to love barbel fishing mainly on the seven. Prefer the pull of river barbel to that of lake carp.

Anything involving beer sounds like a good plan.
Fished on the Thames , , near the source not the big river people normally think off , good chub as well , and then tench fishing on the lakes , good fish to battle with, did some carp fishing , but not as much fun as trotting downstream
