When I took my pension 4 years ago I gave the 3 children some money because I wanted them to enjoy it then rather than wait until Sue and I depart this world. The 2 girls had new kitchens and our son spent it on a wedding. Daughter no.1 has a new car but daughter no.2 has different priorities. I was reminded by Sue that as adults they have to make their own decisions even if my advice was sound.

I once had a car that the speedometer wasn't working. I drove it for two years round London and didn't get a single speeding ticket. Best £500 I have ever spent. 🤗😍😁👍xx

oh barry how very upsetting. to think you were looking forward so much to that day and then everything hits the fan. sometimes its like everything just works against us. at least you had a lovely meal and managed to relax even if it was for a short while.

cars are wonderful until they start going wrong. it worries me. not sure what the hell i would do if i broke down here. our car is 17-18 years old and the battery went one day then the radiator. im just keeping my fingers crossed nothing else goes. i can never figure out why our hazard lights are so low down on a car. its ok for the car behind but if they were higher up flashing lights could be seen further back and i think we would feel safer. one day i was on the A1, pouring with rain and my windscreen wipers stopped working and me in the fast lane. i stuck my hazards on and just had to drive towards the hard shoulder and hope to hell everyone got out of the way. lucky i had a Maverick dont like to think what it would have been like in a small vehicle. eventually got to a ford garage - couldnt believe my luck only to find they were absolutely hopeless and wouldnt help me. a lovely indian man in a grocery store phoned the RAC for me.

After numerous texts my daughter is finally home safe but I think she will need a new car. I am very relieved.

We traditionally meet family members to exchange presents and celebrate just before Christmas but of course it was cancelled last year so we met today at a favourite restaurant following the lifting of restrictions. The journey is 40 minutes by car and our daughter agreed to drive so we set off southbound on the A1 only to find it closed due to an accident. My daughter’s car was a cast off from her mum and it is 18 years old so no satnav but she pulled into a lay-by to get her phone out and find an alternative route. We arrived only 30 minutes late and enjoyed a great lunch with wine and company.
On the way back our daughter was concerned about a warning light on the dashboard and low and behold the car broke down at a busy junction within 2 miles of home. Imagine a 2 door car with me in the passenger seat and my wife behind our daughter, hazard lights on but drivers behind not noticing. Some drivers offered help and others cursed and hooted but it wasn’t safe to push the car with us in it across a busy road in rush hour. The AA were 40 minutes away so Sue and I called for a taxi, leaving Josie with the car. As I type this she is waiting for a low loader to take the car back to Nottingham where Josie lives and I need a stiff drink.
