Oh Heather I know what you mean. I had the same problem. I wish there was some kind of alert that stops it when no one is listening. The trouble i had finding where I'd got to. I'd rather have shorter chunks of about an hour rather 5. 😊

Apparently a pornstar martini is the drink to have according to my son's girlfriend. 🍸🥤🍸 although I'm going for a Pimms ( sorry Matthew for the drink ref )

📚I'm sorry I didn't get much further forward with reading since my last post...but the good news is I will continue.
It was definitely not a book I would of chosen myself so that was a revelation - as once I got into it I started to really enjoy. That's an obvious plus side to being in a book club...reading out of my comfort zone.
I like that it gives a flavour of such a totally different culture through generations. Also the portrayal of such strong female characters throughout.
I set off with the audio book...however her voice sent me to sleep so I switched to reading.
I'd been struggling to read (mind too busy) and this book has put me back on track to read regularly. So that's win win.

OK, here is my short review: slurp, slurp 🍸🍸🍸, crunch, crunch on THE onlyflavour crisp worth eating 😁😃

Pachinko - I enjoyed this novel a lot. This 4 generation family saga had everything - sadness, joy, fortitude, love & romance, but it was the history, cultural constraints, oppression and rigid social norms interwoven throughout the story which interested me most.

[Removed: a specific event, as not to spoil Linda’s unfinished read] epitomised the crux of the matter for me - no matter his education or level of self-improvement he achieved, the strict social and cultural rules meant that no matter what, social mobility is impossible and he would always be seen as a tainted, second-class citizen, a de facto criminal, simply because of his Korean ethnicity.
