    Exceptional circumstances

MNDConnect I have 3 sons all in different schools , 11,9,4 due to my needs had to take them out of school during term time due to our only helpers not being able to take the time off in the holidays. My 9 yr olds school are threatening to fine us , we explained the situation and they are saying due to government guidelines that they have to look into it 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️ We have blatantly said if we get another chance to go on holiday again we will do it again, as to which there reply was well if we let this first breach slide there’s no chance we letting the next 1 ! I’m fuming 😡 how is it that my 11 year olds school understand totally and say take as much as u like

Write to the papers, mp, local TV and local councillors. Just keep complaining. I would have said these are exceptional circumstances.
when i can think of something profound i will update this.

      Hi Pat,

It is up to the headteacher and granting leave is discretionary and should be for “exceptional circumstances“……… not quite sure what this headteacher would say is exceptional if this isn’t 😡

this is from the government website about the subject:

When your child can miss school

You can only allow your child to miss school if either:
      • they’re too ill to go in
      • you’ve got advance permission from the school

There’s extra support available if your child cannot go to school for long periods because of a health problem.

      Holidays in term time

You have to get permission from the head teacher if you want to take your child out of school during term time.

You can only do this if:
      • you make an application to the head teacher in advance (as a parent the child normally lives with)
      • there are exceptional circumstances

It’s up to the head teacher how many days your child can be away from school if leave is granted.

You can be fined for taking your child on holiday during term time without the school’s permission.

        Thanks mate
