Bypap machine advice?

Hi Tabby;

It is hard to say but probably they put him on the machine to lower his Co2 level and increase his oxygen level.

If this is the case he will lack energy in the day time and may get headaches in the early morning.

Many people have trouble wearing them, just see if he will wear it for a half an hour during the day time and build it up SLOWLY to a couple of hours. Bribe him if needbe.

Thanks Terry I'll try that. Yes he's had a bad day today probably because he wouldn't wear it last night. He's hardly eaten today either.

Hi Lynne,, thanks for that information, sometimes things maybe some be scarier than they are,, I like that it's not like it's forcing air in and sounds quite gentle, and it can be built up gradually., sometimes I feel silly asking some questions, it's just the unknown though I guess.. That post seems to be nothing more than an Advert and I reported it earlier.

In case you and others aren't aware, there is a Report button for every post.

Unfortunately it doesn't exactly jump out as a report facility as it's the very small triangle located at the very end of the post on the left side (under the user name etc)

I rememember the size and prominence of the button was discussed with Admin a few years ago but nothing happened - note, it wasn't the current Admin staff.

It probably depends on how close he is, contact wise and how efficient his specialist breathing team.

Why do you think that he would benefit from one of these?

Have I got it wrong and you are talking about a feeding tube?

ANDY has been on his BiPAP since feb, he was very sick and became hypercapneic before he went on it , he was falling asleep mid sentence, jumping and hallucinating , he has it every night and is much better , all though his diaphragm has been one of the first things to be affected the BiPAP has certainly helped for the time being .. although getting used to it took a little bit of time , he got a very bad pressure sore on his nose and they tried all different masks on him but the Only one he liked was the one that went over his nose and mouth we now put an Alivin padded dressing on his nose where it presses and this has worked , no more sores . Explain to him that this will help him have more energy during the day and help him sleep much better at night and get his blood gases to the correct level. I hope this has helped a bit .

hi everyone
my husband has been using his bipap machine for a week now and he also had problems with a pressure sore on his nose. aloe vera gell has helped and he is ok now. i think it is making a difference he has more energy, though this seems to come and go, but i do think he is engaging more and seems more alive. i am so glad he has had this help because its been a long time acoming.

hi morning everyone
he slept with it all night and he looks so much better this morning. this is the first time he has done this. usually wakes up about 2am and then takes it off and leaves it off. if you are offerred one then give it a go.

Just a quick bit of information. Stephen has been taking his mask off if he answers a call of nature and not putting it back on. Yesterday the young lady from the breathing department from the hospital called to check how it was going. She made a few adjustments like a bit longer between incoming air. Also advised that it's more beneficial to wear mask during early morning because this is when our sleep patterns are more relaxed so users get more benefit. Also pointed out that there's no need to take off whole mask just unattached the tube at the front. It's definitely improved things for my husband.

Denise, is Stephen saying why he's not putting the mask back on when he gets back into bed? Did he say he felt the settings weren't quite right?

Hopefully the new setting suits him better (and hopefully the lady knows what she is doing...)

I don't think he was putting it back on because he couldn't be bothered/Has problems with his hands. Now he's using the loo with his mask on and seems quite happy. Didn't take it off until 7.30 this morning. He's happy with the new settings and has been told we can call 24/7 If we have any problems. Also we did have a period of hot temperatures day and night so that probably added some discomfort.
