    Wav

Hi all, me and my partner are looking at getting a wav. He is now in an electric wheelchair and wants to either drive or sit up front if possible. Could you please advice on which vehicle you would advise for someone with MND. Many thanks in advance.

    Hello Jo jo,

I don’t know if you are eligible for the Motability scheme but even if not their website is a great place to search for options. You can search under wavs and then specify up front options. Due to the conversion cost the up front is very expensive but you may find one from a specialist dealer.

    Best wishes,
    Barry
I’m going to do this even if it kills me!

      Hi Jo Jo,

Good luck with choosing your WAV. We got ours using the motability scheme using Allied mobility. We have found the service excellent. I sit in the back and my powerchair is quite high so I cannot see out of the windows. On a long journey this can make me feel car sick, unfortunately. It also means we cannot really chat.

The alternative was having the front seat taken out and as Barry says this is very costly. It depends on your car but I think it was thousands although you might be able to source a second hand one. It also means there is only one small passenger seat in the back, which we didn't want.

      Good Luck,
      love Debbie
