    Incontinence

Having a problem with night time incontinence. Im not sure why this is happening. Could be deep sleep, unable to get out of bed or the peg feed. Hard to get any answers. Probably out of embarrassment.

2 nights ago everything was drenched. This started about 2 weeks ago. I've bought incontinence pants and now absorbent sheets. Yesterday out of exasperation he had food instead of his normal peg feed. Not enough to gain weight but I wanted to see if it would make a difference. Pants wet but not anything else.

another thing the peg food seems to make him groggy. This morning he seems more alert. I don't know if I'm imagining it or not. Anyone else have this problem.

Hi Denise, could it be a urine infection?Prostate problem? Is it worth talking to somebody in husbands health support team or GP?
Do you need to talk to the dietician about the PEG seemingly making your husband groggy.
I don’t have a PEG yet so not sure of any side effects.
Hope the problem gets resolved soon.
    Best wishes
    Mary

Hello Denise. I've read it can sometimes be linked to poor mobility. x

Poor Stephen, he must be so embarrassed and cleaning up is no fun, I'm sure.

Denise, you really need to find out if he is aware that he's peeing - it's one thing if he has urgency and just cannot stop it, but if he is unaware completely and only know on waking up wet, that's something else entirely.

What about using a Conveen condom catheter whilst you're all trying to figure out what's going on? They're non-invasive, have a look online.

One thing to consider is prostate trouble, given his age, and if he empties his bladder fully or in dribs and drabs.

Digesting food takes energy - when were his NIV settings last checked or maybe he needs to do an overnight Sats test.

There are meds which help with urinary incontinence.

        Big hug. xx

Thanks Ellie that's worth a try.

He's had his niv and stats and everything is really good.

I'm going to have to ask more questions. I've started his feed earlier, so everything's hopefully run through, but it's not making any difference. Im thinking of putting a knot init 🤔

It's unlikely to - drinking alcohol or caffeinated drinks before bed can make bladder incontinence worse, but rather you than me telling him that...

Oh Ellie. I've just been asking him what's going on and he admitted he couldn't be arsed to get out of bed. Charming. I'm so angry.

Ellie I wouldn't mind but it's my daughter's bed. You would think that would be enough reason to get out of bed. I feel as though ive been slapped round the face.

I haven't had a ™normal™ poo in ages. Too long to wait and very painful. Now I can only go by taking sodium Picosulfate and 5-8 hours later I get plenty of notice and the sheer relief is tremendous. It wakes me up if I forget to take it early doors and during the day anyone around me is treated to many farts. You just got to love this disease don't we?
