Hello, my husband has been saying he has some ‘mild’ chest pain that comes and goes this has been over the last 3 days, he kept telling me it had gone assuming because he didn’t want me to call the dr,, but now has had to lie down as feeling quite unwell, feeling sickly and sweating. He won’t let me call 111 as they will send him to hospital as soon as any mention of chest pain they’ll send him. He’s trying to cough but can’t. Sorry just got to talk on here because no one else to talk to. I’ve raised the bed head height and don’t know what else I can do to help. Xxx

I totally get his reluctance to go to hospital but would he let paramedics examine him, find out if he's relatively okay or not, before he needs to decide what to do. xxDiagnosed 03/2007. Sporadic Definite ALS/MND Spinal (hand) Onset.

He is terrified of going to hospital. He had a terrible time 6 years ago after a heart bypass, he has never quite got over it. He has fallen asleep now . He tends to down play his symptoms to avoid me calling 111. I just don’t know what to do, I would have called our GP if it was a weekday, but so worried that it’s weekend and he does not want me to call anyone. He keeps saying he has probably just pulled a muscle but I’m not convinced. XxLost my lovely husband on 31.12.22, diagnosed with ALS on 15.12.21.

Doggymama It's the nausea and sweating with the chest pain that I don't like. If you have a pulse oximeter, take his pulse and Sats.
Keep an eye on him and, as I said, even if an ambulance comes, he can refuse to go to hospital. xxDiagnosed 03/2007. Sporadic Definite ALS/MND Spinal (hand) Onset.

We don’t have a pulse oximeter. I’ll see what he’s like when he wakes up. It’s been 6 years since his last heart attack, at that time he was on a work trip and didn’t say anything until he got home. He’s very good at down playing anything. It does make it difficult to know when he really ought to be getting help. XxLost my lovely husband on 31.12.22, diagnosed with ALS on 15.12.21.

Christopher he had the bypass at the Freeman but had a cardiac tampanade after the bypass and spent a few weeks in intensive care. He’s just woken up and says he feels okay, won’t let me call anyone. If he gets worse he will surely tell me and i will make the decision for him.Lost my lovely husband on 31.12.22, diagnosed with ALS on 15.12.21.

Doggymama so sorry you're in such a difficult position. My dad is very stubborn and doesn't always tell us what's going on, have to be a detective to work it out.
I agree with Ellie the sweating and naseai on top of the chest pain. I see that he's saying he's OK so hope that things are improving but if not worth ringing 111 for an out of hours doctor assessment.
May be worth getting a few things like oximeter/blood pressure monitor. My dad has found it harder breathing today, saying his face feels numb. Thankfully the oxineter showed good sats and the nebuliser seems to have helped.
hope things improve x

Doggymama Well the positive is that the Freeman is one of the best Cardiac Surgery units in the UK with a much wider range of facilities and skill sets than others.
I had the pleasure of being transferred from Newcastle General to the Freeman after a Cardiac Incident about twenty years ago (I was up in Newcastle for a Cardiac Meeting).
The only negative about my stay was that they messed my wrists up trying to take blood from them.
I think the nurses at the Freeman were the kindest cardiac nurses I have ever met.
Hopefully your husband has a good day and everything settles. I'm sure this horrible weather we are all having is not helping.

Thanks Christopher I've been trying to figure out the numbness as it's not normally associated with MND. I assumed it was the muscles getting weak but I'll ask him to check his blood pressure.

Ellie he said he felt fine all day, just showered him and he admitted he was still getting intermittent chest pain but it’s not much and hardly notices it. So he says! Got a pulse oximeter delivered today, good old Amazon! His o2 is 92 and pulse 76 xxLost my lovely husband on 31.12.22, diagnosed with ALS on 15.12.21.
