Dear All,
MNDA HQ are aware of this event but I wanted to flag it up locally. for more info: https://www.instagram.com/emilygodle...tliftingevent/
My daughter Emily Muskett has organised along with Simon Jeffery of Winner's 2000 Gym a weightlifting comp that now has 65 competitors. The aim is to raise more than 10k for MNDA at the same time as promoting women's weightlifting as a valuable fitness tool. It is on the official calendar of the British Weightlifting Federation (so we hope it might become an annual event) and sponsored by ELEIKO the premier sports equipment manufacturer. If you're around, do come! Entrance fee is ยฃ5. Also there will be fellow Olympian Sarah Davies who narrowly missed out on a medal.
Our story:
In December 2019 just before Christmas my wife Celia was diagnosed with MND and passed away exactly one year later, 20 December 2020. You can imagine what sort of year we all had, with Covid, having to move house and have it altered to suit, only for her condition to decline rapidly. This inspired the four girls to do a charity walk from Torquay to Brixham and back and they raised over 7k in the process since the official event in London, the Thames Bridges Challenge, which theyโd signed up for prior, was cancelled. All the girls (Laura, Emily, Louise & Emily) were instrumental in their mumโs care in the final stages.
Emily moved back to the UK from Australia with husband Joe in June 2019 to be with, and help her mum.She is an elite athlete in the sport of weightlifting. She won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast April 2018 and we were lucky enough to be able to go there and watch her compete. Sheโs done well since, most recently a bronze at the Worlds and gold at the European Champs in June. This latest even merited a mention on BBC which for the sport of weightlifting is something of an achievement but especially notable as this was the first gold medal for the UK in the competition for 26 years. She's also appeared briefly on Rob & Ramesh's TV show and a little spot on the BBC Olympic highlights programme.
Best wishes,
Robert Godley
