    Wow

With the arrival of the summer edition of Thumbprint, I suddenly realized that there doesn’t seem to be a thread on here about what must be the longest, toughest and most heroic fundraising event this year.

Two brave women – Rachael Marsden, MND specialist nurse consultant at the JR in Oxford and Catherine Dixon, wife of the MNDA’s Chief Executive – are aiming to be the fastest women to cycle round the world on a tandem. That means in less than 320 days!

I should declare an interest. I see Rachael every three months or so at my regular MND clinic appointment and I will really miss her for the next few sessions. Her support and infectious smile are worth a couple of points on anyone’s ALSFRS-R!

You can read about Raz and Cat’s epic 18,000 mile journey on www.tandemwow.com and track them on https://www.followmychallenge.com/live/tandemwow/ . They’re currently peddling furiously eastwards along the Mediterranean coast road heading for Genoa.

I’m exhausted just thinking about it!

Thanks for the links, keep us updated on their progress.

      Wow indeed Doug.

What an epic undertaking these two ladies (& Alice the bike ) have embarked on!!!

They've a weekly blog on the website and are also on FB, Insta & Twitter - I don't think they send postcards or telegrams Terry

I hope they raise more than their stated £18,000 target - they deserve to do so, given their gruelling 10 month challenge.

      Thanks Doug.

      Love Ellie.

        Hi Doug

That's quite an feat, and quite impressive !!!

Its also amazing to me they can manage to take that time off from their jobs. Americans are lucky to get 2 weeks vacation time ! Taking a year off seems unthinkable.

I hope they getting lots of media coverage it could help them reach their fundraising targeted goal faster, and maybe even exceed it

I saw their map on your link. It looks like when they hit the US they will start in Florida and cycle across to the West Coast. Good Luck to them and may god keep them safe.

          Hi Doug,
Rachel told me about her pending trip on my last visit to the JR. I too will miss her support. I've been following her and Catherine Dixon's progress for the past fortnight. As you say, they are now on the Italian Riviera.
