    Hi there,

so I'm going to need a NIV for night sleeping, I like to sleep on my side however. would sleeping on my side impede it in any way?

    thanks

Have Walton Centre done an overnight O2 sleep study, respiratory function profile and arterial blood analysis?

It looked like I was heading that way for NIV consideration, but after going through extensive testing, they promptly established I had previously undiagnosed Asthma (and an overlap with a pre-existing condition), better respiratory function than average for my age (and the Consultant), prescribed an inhaler and a month later I was feeling a reasonable amount better.

Follow-up approx 3 monthly, but one less thing to worry about for now.

I'm awaiting to hear back from them. I might follow and see where they're at with it.

      thanks

You had a sleep study already?

no not yet. This is me getting ahead of myself as I'm noticing respiratory problems during the day and night time. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself and started to panic at the thought of having to sleep on my back

I'm exactly the same, and it's fine.
My breathing was getting so weak I was having trouble lying on my back.
            I am a side-sleeper, and I have no problems.

            Hi, I'm Eddie.
Started with wobbly left ankle in Nov 2020. Diagnosed 22 Oct 2021, confirmed by 2nd opinion 4 days later.
Full time powerchair user. Overnight NIV. PEG'ed but still eating. Voice banked but still talking.
Still wondering what the future will bring.

Whilst it's tempting to try to get ahead of things it's sometimes better to wait for the appointment with Respiratory as they are the experts and will assess of your breathing is such that NIV is recommended. They indicated to my dad nearly a year ago that they might recommend NIV but with reviewing his symptoms over that time they have yet to make tha recommendation.

trying to think about every possible connotation can cause a lot of worry whereas an appointment might give you reassurance.

And some... given that it turns out that you don't have a confirmed diagnosis of ALS/MND after all.
