    Itchy back

Hi, my husband has als, on NIV at night and at times during the day. He’s on meds for anxiety and riluzole, plus his usual pre mnd meds for blood pressure. He’s also been on the mnd smart trial for some mths. Over last three weeks he’s complaining of a very itchy back. No changes to meds, washing detergent. I’m on the case with gp to get some relief but wondered if anyone else suffered with itching. In meantime he has an antihistamine to take edge off.

Lindsay67 Lots of us get patches or bouts of (often intense) itchiness which, when, like me, one doesn't have the ability to scratch, that itch seems magnified and drives us to distraction.

To reduce the risk of itchy skin, my toso, arms and legs are moisturised daily and I get lots of water. If I get an itchy patch now, it's usually very small and localised and a dab of insect bite cream does the job xx

Anytime I see Aveeno on special, I stock up - it's wonderful stuff, but expensive. xx

Ellie you got me hooked. I'm trying the cream to oil almond scent. My carer as occasionally dermatitis and she's been converted.

Might be expensive but lasts and works.😇

Lindsay67 My GP has prescribed something called double base gel for my skin. It's a moisturiser and has ingredients that are safe for my extremely sensitive skin! Maybe something similar could help? Dry skin does get itchy.
Diagnosis confirmed as atypical ALS Jan 2022 (age 46) after several years misdiagnosed.

Symptoms began in left foot 2017. Now widespread. Powerchair user, useless left arm and clumsy right hand but generally positive!
