    Thyroid issues linked to MND?

    Does anybody else have thyroid issues that are linked to motor neurone disease or is it just something entirely separate?

    The GP surgery ran me through the test mill earlier in the month and everything was fine except some unusual thyroid test results.

    My Serum free T4 level is a bit low while my Serum TSH level is normal

        Hi Andy,

        My FT4 and TSH regularly come back within normal range.

        Was your 'Se Thyroxine T4' measured too, as in is it printed on the results page?

        Either way, ask your GP if it's something you should be concerned about.

          In fact, I was looking at my test results online rather than on a printed page and it only gave the two results I quoted in my original post.

          Is the Se Thyroxine T4 test additional to the two I quoted?

          And I will talk to my GP but I wanted the expert view here first as I like to go to the GP armed as some of the GPs I see know less about MND than I do

            Yes it's a different test - it's the thyroxine (T4) level, not just the free T4 and may help give an overview of what's happening, for example, thyroid or pituitary involvement. (FT4 measures thyroid function) It's irrelevant really as Se Thyroxine (T4) alone wasn't measured.

            As your TSH is normal, that helps narrow things down too. If the GP says it's nothing to worry about, ask for a repeat test in a month or so and ask if it should be done fasting.
