    Yes, you hit the nail on the hear - being tired makes all symptoms worse unfortunately. That’s why, even at this early stage, it’s advisable to pace yourself and, if you feel tired or over-exerted, rest. You might find you need to up your calorie intake, so do speak to a Dietitian (in your MND Clinic??)

    I half hesitate to mention voice banking as you’re not diagnosed, but it is something to consider doing - if your voice were to go completely, it can be used as a voice to speak words you’ve written, rather than using a generic voice. It needs to be done with a relatively strong voice.

    Hi Lizzie and welcome to the forum;

    Sorry to hear of your recent diagnoses and the problems your having.

    I'm afraid that speech problems are very common with Mnd.

    You should try and get in touch with A SALT, speech and language specialist as they can help you with things.

    As Ellie says below, many of our symptoms get worse when we are tired, I used to have a afternoon little sleep when first diagnosed.

    Best wishes, Terry

    Speech variations

    I'm newly diagnosed with MND but I'm finding some of the symptoms variable, and have seen nothing in the information I have read to indicate that this is common or expected. I have a number of the early symptoms including fasciculations, weakness and muscle wasting, but I also have a problem with slow slightly slurred speech. Can anyone out there tell me if they have experienced variability with the speech problem. I am finding that sometimes my speech is reasonable, but at other times, especially when I'm tired I sound a little drunk. Does anyone else experience this variability?
    Thankyou in advance. I'm feeling a bit unsure about what is happening to me.
