Standing up assistance devices

I have a community-supplied "hospital" bed, which doesn't look much like a bed found in an actual hospital but equally, not as homely looking as a profiling bed available to buy. Hospital bed and profiling bed are often used as interchangeable terms.

My bed has beech (wood) foot and headboards, no side rails but even with its bed linen it's obviously not a normal bed. Like my hoist, I detested it at first but it has made my life easier and less painful (feet & head raised) and is physically easier on my husband & carers to get me into and out of bed, so I have learned to like it

No harm in seeing what beds hubby's Community Nurse can provide before deciding whether or not to buy one. If you do buy one, it should be height adjustable and have functions to raise the head and foot of the bed.

Is your bed a hospital bed or your own profiling hi/low bed? I need to get a profiling hi/low bed for my husband as he is reluctant to use a hospital bed

Sorry to hear this, you must have been exhausted both physically & mentally.

I wonder if a hospital/profiling bed would help you - they're almost universally regarded as hateful things until we see how useful they actually are .

If you raised the head of the bed up fully, you're halfway there, then could higher or lower the bed so it's at a good height for you to stand. You could also have a side rail which you could grab and pull yourself up into the best position possible.

The hoists I'm familiar with can't be self-operated but that's not to say they don't exist.

Last night I was forced out of bed with my insomnia restlessness but, when I tried to stand up off the bed I couldn't and I had to press my telecare pendant. I did manage eventually to stand up before the telecare assistants arrived at my house but it was very hard and over a dozen attempts. I have mailed my OT about it but I am wondering what devices there are ( if any) to help you stand up off a bed. I live on my own and I don't have carers yet ( and I have been avoiding suggestions to have carers due to coronavirus ) so I have no one to assist me standing up. My OT has given me a riser recliner chair which can help me stand up off it and she has also given me raised toilets seats. And I will have to sleep on that riser recliner chair now until modifications are made to my bed. If my bed was raised I don't think I would be able to get in it.
