    Constipation advice

    Yes lovely topic!

my Mam has bulbar and her breathing has been terrible over the last few hot days, I had to call an ambulance this morning but it was just a severe panic attack thank goodness. She is however constipated now and it is really distressing her. She has a peg and has taken her Laxido powder but no luck. Any tips? Trying really makes her breathless. Thanks x

Hello, well I have Bulbar and I had bad constipation until I gave up eating and syringed everything. That said I still have to strain even for diarrhea! Happy Days. x

It looks like it'll take more than one Laxido, Lesley. Make sure you dissolve each in 125ml of water and after she gets that, give her more water, warm is better than cold. Don't be afraid to go another sachet.

If she's desperate and you're up to it, pop to the pharmacy and get suppositories. They'll take maybe 20mins to work and will empty the rectum, allowing the ball to start rolling, so to speak.

Good luck to her - I know exactly how she feels but tell her she will go to the loo and try not to fret.

        Love Ellie.

Sorry Ellie can I ask you one more thing? Can the laxido in the warm water that you mentioned to in the peg?

I was given Movical and a clear out is 9 satchets. It makes a liquid rather like flour paste and was a struggle to drink back when I had no problems. The sheer relief of being able to syringe the last dose is impossible to put into words. x

Yes, warm water is OK for Laxido. I often follow it with an espresso, works wonders!!
