That's great I'm impressed. I've never given it a thought though I did arrange my mum and brothers funeral. I love the sense of humour xxxxx😃

Even before Ann got ill we wrote down what we both want. I remember we were sat on sun beds in Tenerife one January and just said you never know when it might be needed. We both want to end with Jimmy Ruffin I’ll say forever my love which is “our song” I want to come in to spirit in the sky by doctor and the medics, Ann wants let’s dance by Chris Montez.

Fritz and I both love John Prine’s “in spite of ourselves..”. hysterical not sure it will be appropriate for memorial service . Fritz is a Rolling Stones fan...

Thanks for posting this sensitive subject Matthew. Why does a terminal disease force the issue when nothing in life is more certain than death? If everyone planned their funeral arrangements in advance then family would not be put in a position of getting it wrong. I understand that when we are healthy and getting on with life the subject is far from our minds.

I appreciate this subject may offend some of our readers and I apologise but I beg you to have the discussion with your loved ones. I admit I was premature with my arrangements as I was later diagnosed with a slow version of MND but it is one less thing to organise. My song is Queen, who wants to live forever.

I’m going to do this even if it kills me!

i think there is probably more discussion about planning a funeral. cant help but think if i brought the subject up with stephen he would wonder what my intentions are!! come to think of it didnt someone plan their funeral and actually attend it. sort of enjoy the party before the send off. great to see the family and say good bye. i always thought when someones dies and people say wonderful things about them that it's a shame they weren't alive to hear what is being said. i dont see why a funeral cant be a party because some actually celebrate death and do it over a few days. when my dad died it was a relief (his illness was so horrible) so when the family got together it was relaxed, not sad. don't some make a recording that can be played at the funeral? something that annoyed me when we did have a discussion with the funeral people was the choice of coffin. if being cremated why does it have to be big and posh and expensive handles and lined and so on. i mean if the handles on the coffin are so expensive are you telling me they are going into the fire? i dont think so. i mean i just want to be put into a box, nothing fancy but good for the environment. please put the lid on and no one look at me and i am not worried about a fancy frock! if no one has anything nice to say about me - who cares i am not going to worry though i might come back and sort them out!
theres a big fire burning not that far away. might need to give this some urgent thoughts!!

Denise, the lovely Dina who we all miss was sent off in a wobbly cardboard box. That must have been her wishes. So if you want basic and not wasteful go for it but warn your friends and family beforehand so they don’t feel negatively about that choice. Lynne x

We spent two afternoons at the crematorium so hubby could check his service was just right. The second visit was needed as I threw a paddy over one of his choice of songs. Something by the Incredible String Band. I said I didn't want to spend his funeral tea explaining his very weird choice of music.
The person in charge left us to run through the service and said come and find me when you're finished. When I went to find her she was hoovering the entrance, after a couple of excuse me's it was clear she couldn't hear me. So I tapped her on the shoulder. What a reaction. When I peeled her off the ceiling we had a good laugh.

Did you know that the energy required to cremate a body is equal to the energy they would use in a whole month! Apparently fast composting isn't available to us yet! Could have a wicker coffin or one made of banana leaves. Not sure about flimsy cardboard incase I fell out!
as for music I'm still not sure. I listened to 'in spite of ourselves' - good but I think I'd have it played after. My brothers funeral I picked tears for fears, mad world.
