Yes, there is a distinct difference:
Pseudobulbar Palsy involves upper motor neurons only. Bulbar Onset MND/ALS involves both upper and lower motor neurons, with the first symptoms being bulbar (speech or swallow etc)
I am not really sure! Both were bandied around in the begining. I think I need another app. with the neurologist. I am getting a lot of pain in left shoulder and arm now. I have virtually no voice and eating is becoming more and more difficult. I have a peg inserted a month ago. I am lethargic, depressed and not interested in anything. It is good to let go to someone who I don't know. Not soo good for you, sorry
Fortuna
I'm sorry you're mood is low - it can be all too easy to spiral downwards when you're lethargic and in pain, not to mention trying to get your head around losing your speech and swallow... Would you think of taking an antidepressant to stabilise your mood? Lots of people with MND find real benefit in taking them.
Are you getting enough calories and sleep? A lack in either, or both, isn't good.
Is your hand function deteriorating? Your arm and shoulder pain may not be MND-related. If your dexterity is affected, that's a big clue as to which type of MND you have, by the way.
Please don't suffer in silence, Fortuna - get your arm and shoulder checked out by your GP and antidepressants, if you think they're worth trying.
