I think the ST asked me what meds I was taking. I have started using Tescos own brand but the thick texture makes me shudder

🤔 Madge, did the Speech Therapist know you're taking omeprazole when she said you have silent reflux? You probably know that med reduces the amount of acid produced by the stomach glands, so it will be interesting to see if the Gaviscon does anything !!

Thanks Mary ... I am already on that tablet... but to stop ulcers developing from the other medication I am on x

I use omeprazole prescribed for silent reflux as I was having a tickle in my throat that felt like something was stuck and irritating me causing dry cough several times a day.After a week I am pleased to say it’s improved a lot.Best wishes Mary

Hi Madge.

The frequent need to clear the throat and the 'lump' feeling are both common bulbar involvement signs. They are also common symptoms of reflux, which isn't very helpful!! Though with reflux, you would probably have some discomfort from acid reflux, not necessarily a burning sensation, it could be a sore feeling behind the breastbone.

It's worth trying the Gaviscon, if it sorts you out, then brilliant. I take a proton-pump inhibitor, lansoprazole, to reduce stomach acid.

I recently had a chat with a speech therapist (the first time since being diagnosed in 2017) and she said I have a silent reflux. Has anyone else got this as I have not heard of this before. She said to take gaviscon. I find I am constantly trying to clear my throat as it feels I have lumps at the back of my throat. I can speak well and don’t dribble and can eat food. Is this a symptom of MND?
