Hi Bampot67 and Ellie, Thank you, I’ll try ice water but it will have to be via the tube as I can’t swallow saftley now, hopefully its the stomach area where it might work rather than the throat? Or like you said Ellie vent it with the syringe, not a very pleasant thing to watch but I have done it before I have tried holding my breath and tipping my head forward someone else told me to try but last night was the worst event so far so hopefully your ideas will help.
How exhausting for you, David 😯 Hope you aren't nauseous from the constant stomach movements.
The ice cold water might work, but aspiration is easier on cold substances, so do take care if mid-hiccup. Laughing can work too, along with getting a fright or holding your breath.
I wonder are you swallowing more air than usual when you eat - that can happen with swallowing issues. If you were ever shown how to 'vent' your stomach of excess air through the feeding tube, that would relieve pressure.
If you are concerned or if the hiccups are relentless or causing reflux/nausea (risk of aspiration), see you Doctor.
Hi, everyone, just wondered if anyone else has had bad none stop hiccups for hours and found a solution to stopping it aside from someone trying to shock the life out of you which my wife has tried (worked) but don’t think I can deal with that anymore! I seem to be getting many more episodes and last night I couldn’t rest or attempt to sleep when in bed for about two hours before it stopped. My wife read that MND can affect your diaphragm strength and make the hiccups worse?
Regards
David
