I've done a bit of digging about referrals to the AAC service in the NW and it says "If possible, referral forms should be completed by a Speech and Language Therapist or someone knowledgeable in the field of AAC". What about the OT or another healthcare professional?

Have you seen this site: https://acecentre.org.uk/getting-started/
Thanks Ellie. We have a friend who knows the CEO of the Ace Centre, she pointed it out to me. I've not pursued it though. The SaLT did say that I was typing characters into my phone faster than I would do with eye-gaze and she's probably right. If I start to struggle too much I'll start asking more determinedly. The local team have been very helpful so far. The next thing I might need is a riser-recliner chair.

I've tried to get the SaLT to refer me but she won't until I can't use anything. If there's a break in my posts in a few weeks time it means I'm waiting for their help. ๐Ÿ™„

    Hi Lynne,

If you're struggling with using a tablet/laptop, your first port of call is the assistive technology people, who will assess your needs and should also provide you with appropriate gadgets. I was introduced to eye gaze this way, then researched how I could get better PC access for how I use a PC, and bought the eye tracker on Amazon (unfortunately it's no longer available)

Eye gaze systems enable you to use the internet, email, type & chat, listen to books & music, watch TV etc. as well as having environmental controls allowing for control of the TV, compatible sockets etc.

And, like everything, it's best to start the ball rolling on it sooner rather than later, the process can take a while.
