Air mattress

Oh, you had to buy it, and yes, I'm sure they're not cheap... Glad it's comfy so!

I just thought it might be possible to check it out online to see if there's any suggestion online re noise, or those of us with air mattresses could compare its noise vs ours - a noise-off competion 😊 It's probably written on the pump.

Hopefully you'll get used to it, there's always ear plugs if you can manage them.

Oh, it's an actual proper air bed, not an air mattress which goes on a bed, how interesting.

And you can get in and out of it OK? It's firm enough not to give when you sit on its side?

When it's fully inflated it's firm enough to sit on the edge and getting off is easy. Point is I'm not waking up with pain in my hips or legs. 👍x

Wayne, it sounds like you’ve given up on your OT or Nurse supplying you with a decently comfortable mattress, which is a real shame and a poor reflection on them…

Mine is a Meditec Pro2000, which I’ve had for a long time and is top of the range, unfortunately it’s not available for general sale, only to professionals.

If you’re left to buy one, that puts a lot of pressure on you (and your wallet) to choose the right one, and which will do you for a while. You’ll see some for a couple of hundred pounds and some for a couple of thousand pounds, so what's the difference?

If I were you, I’d buy the best mattress I could afford and my wish list for the alternating air mattress would include: very high risk category; replacement mattress (not overlay); adjustable firmness; adjustable alternating air cycle time; 2 or 3 cell alternating therapy; no foam.

Other people will obviously have some different priorities and, remember that I cannot move in bed, so I sleep on my back.

It would be ideal if you could ‘try before you buy’, then you’d know before forking out for one. There are some companies who rent them out, maybe that would be helpful. Also, you might get a grant from the MNDA towards buying one, or even renting.

Wayne you absolutely should not have to buy your own. Your OT must provide you with one fit for purpose. Might I suggest you contact the connect team and ask them to link you in your local MNDA area coordinator who I happen to know because she is also my support in my AV role. Alternatively you could PM me with a contact email and I’ll have word on your behalf
