Carers Assessment

Whilst I have been trying to put a "Plan B" into action - my worry is that should something happen to me Albert wont even be able to get out of bed, so whilst doing this I appear to have stumbled on Carers Assessments.

I was getting the £69 a week up until I took my state pension and thought that was it as far as carers assessment, but no it seems to appear I personally should be assessed - can anyone tell me what this actually means and what I can expect?

There was mention of looking at our finances, not bothered they can do..........and I'm not expecting to get monetary payments or anything like that - maybe this is something I should have had 2 years ago?

Right at the start it felt like a whirlwind of form filling, people in the house etc etc so I think I was too overwhelmed with it all and this must have passed me by although one would have thought there was some kind of annual review - perhaps I slipped the net

The Care Act 2004 places a duty on social care to offer carers an assessment. Most carers in my local authority do take up the offer. Not necessarily for monetary gain but helpful for access to carers break services....and also compiling a contingency plan. E.g. What happens if you become unwell....what immediate support would the cared for person need. Who should be contacted etc. Carers have an emergency card that flags up that they care for someone.
