Hi Matthew,
I use saliva gel and spread it thinly all around mouth and apply a few times a day for chronic dry mouth.I also use Biotene toothpaste and Biotene mouthwash for dry mouth
I brush teeth after meals as dry mouth causes food debris to stick around my mouth,
I haven’t been advised about aspiration risk.As I don’t leave it as a gel lump in my mouth I don’t think it causes aspiration.
You could ask palliative nurse? Or SALT nurse for advise.
Best wishes
MARY

My tongue doesn’t work either and like MaryC I use Biotene gel before going to bed. Works for me and gets me through the night. Brush teeth in morning to get rid of any residue. Fellow bulbar patient recommended XyliMelts which he gave me but haven’t tried yet. Bought via Amazon of course.Diagnosed June 2019. Bulbar palsy. Lost voice. Using PEG fitted April 2021 alongside eating normally albeit slowly and messily at times.

Aspirating anything, even (any form of) saliva, can cause pneumonia - it can happen slowly, over time, so be aware and be careful... 😘🤗Diagnosed 03/2007. Sporadic Definite ALS/MND Spinal (hand) Onset.
