Thanks for that Ellie, I'll tread carefully

Ask for an Ultra Sound of your thyroid. Thyroid is down by the bump in your neck on both sides and behind it (adams apple). If you have goiters, it can cause pain and trouble swallowing. The thyroid can become enlarged, push your thorax (throat) to the side, and make swallowing painful. If it is not that, the Ultra Sound should rule out anything else that may be going on.

Have you an SLT who can assess you, give you advice and recommendations? xx

Worsleybird my throat has become sore when I swallow. I find a dry mouth spray helps (probably lubricating it). My swallow is getting more difficult and voice weaker, all part of the process, I guess.

Possible MND, baclofen may help with it if you see GP. You are just down the road I think.

I tried baclofen but ended up not taking it and went through the pain.

It can be arthritis or stress, be careful of ibuprofen not great for the stomach .

I’ve been experiencing a similar sounding stiff/sore neck for the last few weeks. It’s a muscular problem and I’m having physio. It’s easing slowly and I’m hoping it’s not mnd related and heading for a collar.

Thanks all, so horribly frightened thinking is that another symptom manifesting itself that I cant even bring myself to take pain killers. Cant even rely on wine now in the evening. Will bite the bullet and slug a few painkillers down , tks all for your suggestions

Sorry that noone is taking this seriously ... life is hard enough without unexplained pain.

Just a thought ... I often wake with a sore neck and I think its a result of not being able to move enough in the night. When I mentioned this at clinic they arranged a blood test to rule out thyroid problems..it did but they said just because i have MND doesn't mean there are no other issues. I thanked them profusely for this cheery thought.

If you need painkillers for a few days I wouldn't worry at all. We need to be as comfortable as possible,
    Love Debbie x

Try Baclofen or co codomol if ibuprofen not working.
