As I had an operation for Cauda Equina in January 2011 and subsequently numerous problems afterwards it was assumed my left leg weakness and numbness of three toes was due to trapped nerves. However MRI scans showed 3 areas of nerves which would benefit from surgery but nothing that would cause numbness of toes.
So numb toes and falling were the first indication of MND in my case

I’ve seen 3 physios recently to try to sort out sore/stiff neck. 4 sessions with a private sports physio, one with NHS physio referred by GP (2 more sessions to come) and one with member of hospice team. Only took a couple of weeks to get appointments with last 2. Only just realised non-sports physios don’t give massage. They assess range of movement and recommend exercises to do at home.

So, the verdict was that the fall is responsible for the numb toes and the strange sensation on your left side?

If you attend an MND Clinic, there will be a physiotherapist on the team so try get an appointment asap. xx

Derbyram21 having a fall is awful and really shakes your confidence. I suppose it depends on the type of work you do but your employer does have a duty to make any necessary adjustments to support you to work.
Look after yourself and take it easy πŸ‘πŸ˜‰

    Hi Ellie
No they didn't check for stroke or diabetes.
They just took a MRI of my spine. They have referred me to Othtotics for a foot lifter on my left foot already had one for my right or some other support like you were saying. I think l will need to pay for physio as the list is so long but they have also contacted them. I had been going very to well but today feel very strange as if my legs were weaker. Hopefully feel a bit better tomorrow .
Thank you for your reply and advice it's all new still having only being diagnosed in March x

Derbyram21 I don't want to be alarmist but were you checked for a stroke and for diabetes?

MND is really about motor nerves, so, initially at least, numbness and odd feelings don't happen due to the MND, but maybe nerves are being impinged somewhere - did the MRI show anything?

There are orthotics you can get to stabilise your ankles and I suggest you have an assessment by your OT or physiotherapist who should give you aids to keep you safely on your feet.

    And, be careful... xx

    Fallen over ankle weakness

Thurs afternoon l fell over at workook to hospital and kept overnight to see Neurologist as two of my toes are numb. MRI on back his in case l think showed l had a good back bone ( always said that πŸ˜ƒlol) anyway it's been put down as MND related injury by hospital. My ankles are weak and today l have strange sensation on my left hand side all part of the journey . Felt a bit fed up πŸ˜”but there are worse than me . Not sure how long l will stay now at work but one thing for sure is l won't give in.
Working...
