    Cough

I keep mentioning I have a cough (started mid August) and seems to appear around 6pm each night before and after meals when Im sat down. Its like a spasm and really wheezy once you cough you cant stop and the only way round it for me is to sit on a stool and lean forward and shallow breathe to stop it. Also oddly when first going to bed if I lean to the left hand side slightly curled up it controls it then I fall asleep. Mentioned it to consultant who said it was difficulty swallowing saliva, except I dont have swallowing issues, just slurry speech and the cough so far. Surely you would know if it was saliva and feel it in your throat?

Anyone else have this cough pse?

I had cough before Xmas. Thought was chest infection but antibiotics didn't clear up. Got it again now

        No, and that's the problem...

I'm sorry to say that I would tend to agree with your consultant in that the cough is swallow related, unfortunately. That it happens around meal time, which is when extra saliva is produced anyway, and that leaning forward into a chin tuck eases it, coupled with it happening when you first lie down in bed, are all classic signs of saliva pooling in the throat.

Did the Dr mention about meds which reduce saliva production?

        Love Ellie.

          Hi Ellie
Yes he mentioned there were things he could do if I needed them. I'm very reluctant to take anything at all to be honest, its very hard to come to terms with and you just keep thinking its just a normal cough and will go away soon. Foolish I know, we live in the land of hope and dreams that keep being dashed. Just wonder why it doesnt happen in the morning or at lunch time?
