WHAT IS AN ALSFRS score please

Hi all,
Just been nosying about under the trials section and saw mention of ALSFRS scores? Never heard of them, what do they pertain to and when do you think such a thing may be mentioned by my consultant (apart from him telling me I have spascity in my leg and possible spiral cord issues) - Ive just returned from a 1 hour walk with the dogs btw.

The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS) is an instrument for evaluating the functional status of patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. It can be used to monitor functional change in a patient over time.

Albert scores 32 - do we know what that actually means?

Means diddly squat on a daily basis Sue - changes nothing for Albert, you or me.

Clinical Trials use it as a criteria for trial inclusion, i.e., required minimum ALSFRS score of xx. Clinics track progression using it too.

But it's a blunt, arbitrary tool, with no room for nuance and moves are afoot to replace it but, for now, it's the global standard measurement. xx
