Second question sorry re going to toilet

    Hello again

This Friday my wife has an urgent eye appointment and will be gone for over 4 hours. We have been unable to arrange a carer and so the plan is for me to be in bed with pads.
Usually my wife gets me in and out of bed so I can walk a few steps to the toilet. MY problem is I cannot seem to urinate lying down? Does anyone else have this problem. Also do pads leak?
We have been referred for a conveen but will I be able to use it> Do guys get used to urinating lying down

    Thanks

    Steve

Well I opted for a catheter. Not ideal if you have an active sex life. There is a condom version but I'm no expert. As for peeing lying down I fill a 2 litre bag every night! šŸ¤„šŸ™„šŸ˜šŸ¤£xx

I don’t know, but imagine that the inability to pee while conscious and lying down would be due to ā€˜learned behaviour’, ie. a psychological problem rather than physical inability. I truly hope you manage to get through the ordeal.

I think it might be learned behaviour.

I had a fall at home a few weeks ago and my wife could not get me up. We waited four hourd for an ambulance crew. I was bursting but laying on floor I could not usd urine bottle. Perhaps it is something you learn to do over time Thanks forreply

Mind over matter Steve - if you need to go, visualise yourself standing up šŸ˜

Practice with the Conveen before the day of the appointment, it can take a few goes to get it on securely. xx

Is it worth ringing your district nurse team to see if they can access a convene quicker for you?

Do you have a palliative care team or maybe district nurse team that can access an urgent carer for you via a local carers association?

Its a stressful situation for you to anticipate..

A pad and waterproof sheet? pull up incontinence pads for men?available via Amazon,Age Uk.Boots etc I have a male friend who said the pull ups pants are better than pads provided by nhs…personal preference I guess.

              Hope you get something sorted
              Best wishes
              Mary

Have you got a lifeline and a key safe?Just back up in case you fall( worse scenario)
I really am a fan of lifeline systems as I worked in a hospital and it was shocking how many people were on the floor unable to summons help after a fall.

                  • Have you a urine bottle?

Is your weight the problem? The professionals will have an answer but as always after the event.

hi look i dont know about peeing if you are on your back but yeah i reckon its the fear of wetting the bed that probably causes a hang up. id just like to say that we do have condom catheter for my husband and when we really dont feel like using them we use adult nappies which are like pull on pants. they last over night and he pees for england so really they are worth having as back up. you can get them in the supermarkets and chemists. i can recommend them because come winter washing bedding it a real pain.
when i can think of something profound i will update this.

                        Hi Steve

when I am in bed I use a bottle which has a long tube attached, I think it is something that lorry drivers use. You can get them from Amazon. I’d post a link if I knew how to, but search on Amazon for ā€˜YUMSUM men’s male bed urinal potty P bottle’ and you’ll see what I mean.

I also have a problem starting to pee, you just have to be patient.

When I go out I use a convene.
